Description

Designed to fit seamlessly into the landscape, our open arch structures are a cut above a standard field shelter or storage area. Available in three different sizes, all with the same distinctive curved shape, they’re a versatile investment for any landowner.

Field shelters can be used to:

  • Offer protection for horses and other livestock
  • Store feed stocks or animal bedding
  • House farm or gardening machinery
  • Tend to sick or injured animals in the fields
  • Protect vehicles
  • Provide covered seating or dining areas

As a mobile structure, it’s unlikely you’ll need planning permission for your shelter pod, but this should be checked with your local authority.

Safety

The mobile field shelter must NEVER be relocated / moved without having the spacing bars both in place and fully tensioned to 65nm torque. Failure to adhere to these guidance notes could result in the total failure of the structure and sever harm to persons or livestock. Under no circumstances should people or livestock be within 6m of the moving structure and NEVER inside during these relocation procedures.

Whether it’s the driving rain or snow of winter or the beating heat of the summer sun, the weather can wreak havoc on equipment and materials. A mobile storm shelter allows you to protect vehicles, machinery, animal feed and bedding from the elements while in the field or away from main buildings, keeping them clean and dry even in remote locations.

The open-ended space lets air circulate to keep the interior fresh, whilst the curved roof allows rain and snow to roll off. The aerodynamic shape can withstand strong winds better than a traditional square building, so there’s less chance of structural damage.

For animals living out all year round, a horse arch provides shelter from the worst of the weather. Used as a feeding station, space for grooming or to allow for the care of injured or sick livestock, the arc offers plenty of room for multiple horses or other animals to relax and play together and the special structural design will withstand the rubbing of most types of livestock.

Most animals are happier in spaces they can exit easily if they feel threatened and prefer the open-sided horse arc to more traditional field shelters. The free-flowing design ensures they’re cool in summer and dry in winter while allowing light and air to circulate to minimise the potential for disease.

Once you have received your delivery of your ‘self-assembly’ mobile field shelter kit, you should follow this guidance advice.

  • Prior to unpacking your delivery, please go to www.theyorkshiretimbercompany.co.uk and download the relevant assembly instruction PDF.
  • Check your pack contains all the components listed.
  • Check none of the components are damaged.
  • Follow all assembly instructions and build your horse arch / mobile field shelter.
  • As a natural product your timber could twist, split, and bend under the changing Seasonal conditions, this is nothing to worry about and only adds to the uniqueness of your structure and the structural integrity is in no way adversely affected.
  • We recommend that you treat your timber structure annually with an appropriate timber preservative that can be obtained from any recognised DIY chain, this will ensure the timbers have maximum protection and they will look great too.

Essential safety advice
It is essential that you do not move your horse arch without the low-level bracings fixed securely in position and torqued to 65nm of torque.
The structural integrity of the horse arch cannot be guaranteed if these are not securely fitted prior to the relocation / towing across your site.
Please ensure that all animals and people are at least 6m away from the horse arch as it is being relocated and NEVER stand inside the structure that is being moved.
